Breda Articulated Trolley Bus

Photo of Breda Articulated Trolley Bus

Although the last Breda dual power bus operated on a tunnel route on January 24, 2005, the use of this bus fleet at King County Metro has not ended. Fifty-nine of this fleet have been selected to be converted into trolley buses, and these buses will be used to replace the fleet of MAN articulated trolley buses between late 2004 and late 2006.

The conversion process also includes various updates of bus systems. What does the conversion include? Removal of the diesel engine, transmission and radiator; addition of antilock braking to the third axle; installation of Kiepe current collection equipment (same as on the Gillig trolley buses); driver's station brought up to current standards; new electronic equipment cabinet behind the driver; reupholstered passenger seats and reduction of seat count to improve hip-to-knee room; and installation of LED destination signs.

  • Manufacturer: Breda
  • Fleet Numbers: 4200 - 4258

  • Quantity: 59 buses
  • Seats: 56 passengers
  • Length: 60 feet
  • Year: 1990-91; Converted 2004-06
