Commute Options Beyond the Bus
Commuting by bus may not work for everyone, but King County Metro has a wide range of programs and services designed to help your employees choose the right alternative to driving alone.
Rideshare is a commonly used term for carpooling or vanpooling. Ridesharing can be as informal as a one-day per week carpool or as formal as a daily vanpool. Metro has many services designed to help you promote rideshare at your employment site, including online Ridematching at RideshareOnline.com and Metro Vanpool.
VanShare is a great way for employees to bridge the gap to public transportation services. Metro VanShare can provide a van to groups of three or more commuters connecting them to buses, trains or ferries for a low monthly fee. For instance, if an employee takes the train from Puyallup to King Street Station but still needs tranportation to Green Lake to work, Vanshare could be the missing link to work and back.
Some of your employees may walk or bicycle to work. We not only have programs designed to encourage those who choose one of these forms of commuting, but we also have a voucher program that employers can purchase to reward employees for their efforts.
Taking the train [external link] to work is quickly growing in popularity for those employees who live or work along the Sounder line. Metro has pass programs that allow you to provide the train as a commute benefit.
Other products can improve your commuter program and encourage employees to consider other commute options. For instance, Home Free Guarantee provides limited taxi rides home for employees in the case of an emergency or unexpected overtime.
