Questions

Who can apply?

Individuals, service organizations, businesses, property managers, and families.

What bus stops are available to adopt?

These are bus stops without shelters that abut your home or business property.

What do I need to do to my adopted stop?

  • Pick up all litter in the container provided by Metro.
  • Remove graffiti within 24 hours.
  • Replace full trash containers regularly and place trash in your own garbage can.
  • Generally keep up the appearance of the bus stop area.

When will my trash container be installed?

After your application is received, the process can take 2-3 weeks. Metro Transit will attach the container to the bus stop post and place a itter bag inside, ready for use. We will also place a roll of extra bags at the bottom of the container. Contact the Adopt-A-Stop coordinator to order more bags before your supply runs out. New bags will be sent to you. Note: We do not always notify you when the container is installed.

Can I adopt more than one stop?

Yes, we have many volunteers who have adopted more than one stop.

Do I get more bus tickets if I adopt more than one stop?

No

What can i do about bags of dog waste that get dropped into the litter container?

We have a sticker you can request, "Volunteer Maintained. Please Do Not Deposit Animal Wastes." This might discourage this behavior.

How can I get rid of graffiti?

Try to clean graffiti by using lacquer thinner. If the graffiti is extensive, you can call Metro's Graffiti Hotline at 206-684-1800. Leave a message with the location of the bus stop.

What if the litter container gets damaged to stolen?

Contact the Adopt-A-Stop Coordinator to report a damaged or missing container. You will get a replacement.
