Safety is everybody's business

move it! Bus Safety

When you travel, make sure you do the following before you leave:

  • Let an adult know where you plan to go and when you expect to be back.
  • Carry identification with you-like your school ID or your library card.
  • Bring a cell phone and take some extra change with you in case you need to call home.
  • Sit up front near the driver.

More safety tips:

  • Get there early. Buses don't stop once they leave a bus stop.
  • Never attempt to board or exit a moving bus.
  • Don't cross in front of or behind a bus at a bus stop.
  • Allow passengers to exit the bus before you board.
  • Use the handrails and handgrips inside the bus.
  • In crowded buses, move to the back of the bus to make room for others.
  • Stay clear of the doors.
  • Keep your head, arms and objects inside bus windows.
  • Allow the bus driver to secure wheelchairs.
  • Hold onto the railing when exiting the bus.
  • As you leave the bus, watch for cars.

Looking out for you

Some Metro buses are equipped with on-board security cameras that provide a complete view of the bus interior. Passenger activity is recorded to help ensure your safety.

Be a good partner

  • Keep bus aisles clear.
  • Reserve front "courtesy" seats for seniors and disabled passengers.
  • No drinking or eating on the bus.
  • No smoking on the bus.
  • Listen to radio/CD/tape players with headphones.
