Self Employment and the Single Parent

Anxiety sits
Like my faithful dog
On the threshold of my kitchen,
Watching me cook dinner.
They just sit there, the two of them--
Anxiety and my dog,
Unobtrusive and invasive
And watch me fry.

Born in Kodiak, Alaska in the early 1960s, Mary McKinley moved to the Puget Sound when she was four. She is Mother to Ian (her six year old son), Cat Mother of Isis, Nuit, and Atticus, Dog Mother to Malamute Snowman and Wife to David. Self employed, she is the upholstery instructor at Seattle Central Community College and an avid amateur astronomer.
