Wet sounds.
Several grays as the crowd slumps
up and down the dark corridors
of the city. Fingerbones of rain
creep down your neck
into the pockets of your spine to make you
shiver and dance like the tallest trees
in the hurtling of a storm.


Mercedes Lawry has published poetry for over 20 years in Fine Madness, the Seattle Review, Blue Mesa Review, and in New Virginia Review, among others. Her work appeared in previous Metro Poetry Bus Projects, and she has also published fiction and stories of children. She is Communications Director for the National Court Appointed Special Advocate Association, an advocacy organization for abused and neglected children.
