Vesper

Light clear as a little hymn preserves these
crabapple days, a scent leafy and drying;
stitches the bare trees like lace
to the hem of the evening sky.

In the streets, the light jells,
catches tv antennas, clotheslines
& bicycles-suspends each
in its appointed act-folds in the weather.

Marjorie Rommell is a lifelong resident of Auburn. A former newspaper reporter and editor, she teaches creative writing, and operates a small desktop publishing and public relations firm. She is a founding member of the Northwest Renaissance, a 20-year-old nonprofit literary coalition.
