Water Towns

Water softens things.

Sounds are kinder, edges blur, and bounced light gilds the commonplace.

In venice there is such a wealth of water, people breathe it in like music.
Wind and vapor are local treasures handed down
People sing, and no one thinks to hurry.

So today I won't mind the weather
As this rolling gondola moves me toward my day
And our watercolor city splashes an aria on the glass.

Tracy Huddleson is a writer/editor in Seattle. She loves dogs, Mark Twain, and Italy with a red-hot passion and, at 40, still hasn't gotten around to taking Driver's Ed.
