A bullhorn speaker is strapped to a wooden
post. I expect a voice to begin barking
commands in German. The voice comes gently, though,
broken English floating over our heads, requesting
silence for the violin player, a survivor
of this concentration camp.
His first notes scratch and crackle through the speaker.
His melody emerges: sharp as a razor wire, soft as human flesh.
Robin Shear traveled to Poland for the first time in 1994 with the March of the Living.
