Release

In the hot morning the sprinkler
sprays up and out like a hushed
fountain. Soft waves of water
fan the air, caught in full sun.

I leave my shoes and socks
on the edge of the grass and step
slowly under the white arc, arms
lifted, hands ready to receive.
