Underneath the driver’s seat:
the Delaware quarter to complete our collection,
your old library card, a ketchup packet, credit card receipt.
The gas bill due next week—slipped
into the recycling bin’s mass of papers.
Your favorite pen stuck
in the innards of my piano, buzzing
the E below middle C —
every finger stroke a secret
warning. Your spare key in someone else’s
back pocket — your heart
in someone else’s hands.
