Next to the teacher
marking papers
I marvel that
the bus slows
with
each
red
comma;
As the bus flaps open,
the driver adds
(in parentheses),

“Tomorrow,
holiday schedule.”
My stop.
Standing up,
I bump the teacher’s hand:
fireworks on the page!
