Portrait of Myself as a Mailbox on Locust Road
Sweet musky breeze wafts past Slowed by constant humidity I spot crazy mailboxes All in a row
A hummingbird of tin Wings outstretched Waits to fly off the post Until the mailman comes, Dampens dreams Weighed down with letters, bills
The bird is left To rust upon his wooden post
Catherine Phelps, 8th Grade
