Securement or Tie-Down Areas
These are spaces near the front of buses where the regular seats flip up to create a space for wheelchair and scooter users. Persons using mobility aids must be secured facing the front of the bus; backing onto the lift or up the ramp may make it easier to get into the tie-down area. Mobility aid users must use seat belt-type securement straps to immobilize their mobility aid.
An optional personal seat belt (with shoulder harness in newer buses) is available.
If you need assistance in using the securement system or seat belt, please let the driver know as you get on the bus. It is also helpful if you let the driver know where you will be getting off, so the bus can be positioned properly.
Newer buses have a yellow pushbutton strip on the underside of the flip-up seats -- press this strip about a block before the stop where you want to get off. The bell will ring twice and an indicator will light on the dashboard to let the driver know the lift or ramp will need to be deployed.
These spaces can also be used by disabled children in strollers marked with and "approved by Metro" sticker. Call the Metro Customer Services office during regular business hours at 206-553-3060. TTY users can call 206-684-2029 for information on the accessible stroller sticker.
