Bike Racks on All Metro Buses
Metro's entire bus fleet was equipped with two-position bicycle racks in 1994. Metro does not permit bicycles inside buses for safety reasons.
- Bikes can be transported in the racks on any bus on a first come, first served basis.
- No additional fare is required.
- The weight limit is 55 pounds per loadable position.
- Bicycles with ELECTRIC motors MAY be loaded onto the bike racks.
- GAS-powered bikes are PROHIBITED and may NOT be loaded on the racks.
- Bicycles may be loaded or unloaded at any bus stop at any time except in the Ride Free Area between the hours of 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. During these hours, loading and unloading bikes is restricted to a route's first and last ride free stop. This is a safety policy to reduce the potential of too many cyclists being between buses in heavy downtown traffic.
Tips for a Safe Trip
For a safe trip when you travel with your bike on a Metro bus please:
- Alert the driver before using the bicycle rack (the driver may not see you).
- Always load your bike from the curb side of the bus.
- Sit near the front of the bus and watch your bike. Metro is not responsible for stolen bikes.
- No bicycle loading or unloading is allowed in downtown Seattle's Free Ride Area between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m.
