King County Metro: In Motion

• Must live in the program area. (Programs are currently underway in the Columbia City neighborhood in Seattle through September 2005, and the Crossroads neighborhood in Bellevue beginning in Fall 2005)
• Must be age 16 or older
• Must have at least one car in the household

In Motion is a neighborhood-based program to encourage residents to drive less and travel more by bus, carpool, bicycling, and walking. The program:

• provides travel information and assistance
• offers incentives to help people travel smarter, and
• celebrates community successes in driving less.

How it works:

• Members pledge to use the bus, carpool, bike, or walk to their destination at least twice a week instead of driving alone.
• Individuals request information on travel modes in which they are interested. This information is provided along with various incentives to encourage the participant to follow through on their travel change ideas. Specific program incentives and participant reporting varies between neighborhoods.
