ADA Paratransit Program (eligibility information)

Access Transportation (service questions)

Qualify

  • Serves people age 6 and up who are unable to use regular bus service some or all of the time due to a disability.
  • Must apply and be approved before you use the program (may take up to a month once completed application is received).
  • An in-person evaluation may be part of the determination process.
  • Periodic re-certification may be required.

Description

Persons found eligible for the ADA Paratransit Program can request shared ride, curb-to-curb van rides on Access Transportation within most of King County. Enhanced service (such as door-to-door and hand-to-hand) is available for qualified applicants. Individuals may travel with one companion (more if space is available) and a Personal Care Attendant (if need is documented during eligibility process).

Reservations can be made from one to three days in advance. Unneeded rides must be canceled by 5:00 p.m. the day before (failure to cancel could put use of service at risk). Call the Access Transportation Rideline, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily at 206-205-5000 or TTY 206-749-4286. Long distance: 1-866-205-5001 or TTY 1-877-749-4286. Language translation service is available. When you call, say the name of the language you need and wait for an interpreter to speak to you on the phone.

The Access fare of 75¢ each way for eligible riders and companions must be paid with exact change, a Metro pass or tickets or a PugetPass. A monthly Access pass is available for eligible riders. Personal Care Attendants ride free as do service animals.

When snow or ice is predicted, phone the call center to learn what level of Access Transportation service is available in areas with snow and ice conditions.
