All transit agencies in the Puget Sound Region work together to provide accessible transit for seniors and persons with disabilities. For persons with disabilities and senior citizens, finding and using accessible transit can be difficult. The regional transit agencies have produced the Regional Accessible Transit Guide [external link] to make it less overwhelming. The guide has information on accessible transit for Sound Transit, Community Transit, Everett Transit, King County Metro and Pierce Transit.
The guide is meant to be a reference for persons with disabilities, senior citizens, advocates and service agencies. It includes information about both paratransit and regular transit service. Basic information is also given on fares, transfers, paratransit eligibility and trip planning. It is not possible for a guide such as this to give complete information about all of the transit agencies in the region. It is meant to give basic information about obtaining accessible transit. Individual bus route information is not included. If more information is needed, the guide provides telephone numbers and WebPage addresses where it can be found. Alternative formats of the guide may be requested by calling 800-201-4900 or 206-398-5410 TTY.
Sound Transit and its transit partners follow accessibility standards of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and ADA Standards for Accessible Guidelines (ADAAG), as revised. Sound Transit follows additional guidelines for all Sound Transit facilities and vehicles.
Regular Metro Bus Service includes all fixed routes, the bus tunnel, the George Benson Waterfront Streetcar and Dial-A-Ride Transit (DART) Transit. Information is available from bus schedules, rider information phone line, or on-line Trip Planner. Free individual and group Bus Travel Training is available to seniors and persons with disabilities. Call 206-749-4242 or TTY 206-749-4244.
