Custom Bus Fare Adjustment
To: Custom Bus Coordinators/Riders
Subject: Important Changes are Coming to Public Transportation
Regionalism: "... the ability to work together on common issues that cross boundaries of individual communities." *
Five transportation agencies serving communities throughout the Puget Sound area are working together to simplify fare payment and promote cross-community travel -- to make regional transportation a reality.
A Regional Transit Fare System
Responding to fast-growing transportation needs, Metro Transit has joined Everett Transit, Pierce Transit, Snohomish County’s Community Transit, and Sound Transit to create a cooperative fare system.
Easier Regional Public Transit
This coordinated fare system and the new cross-county, cross-city PugetPass are first steps toward an easier-to-use fare payment system for all residents. Custom Bus fares have been incorporated into this regional fare payment system.
"PugetPass"
Beginning in September 1999, PugetPass will be valid as fare payment on Metro Transit and its regional partner systems.
Most Metro passes will be replaced by the new PugetPass. Puget Passes (in the denomination determined for your route) will be the only fare payment method accepted on Custom Bus routes.
Custom Bus Fare Adjustment
To enable the Custom Bus program to participate in the regional fare effort and continue to meet the cost recovery requirement of 80 percent of each route’s operating cost, a general fare adjustment is being implemented, effective September 1, 1999. This is the first Custom Bus fare adjustment since 1993.
We’ll Help You Through the Transition
A chart showing the new Custom Bus fares as of September 1, 1999 will be available on Metro Online later this summer. A service agreement detailing your contractual arrangement with King County Metro will be mailed to you in July 1999. If you have questions about Custom Bus, the regional fare system or the Custom Bus fare adjustment, please contact your King County Metro Custom Bus Representative at 206-684-1743.
Thank you...for working with King County Metro to make regional public transportation a reality.
