Special Rider Alert - September 2001
Significant Bus Service Improvements are Coming Saturday, September 29, 2001
By working with King County residents, bus riders and local community organizaions, Metro Transit has developed the largest change to its service in over a decade. This service investment completes an objective of Metro's Six Year Transit Development Plan: to create a route network that provides residents with more frequent, faster connections within and between communities.

Major improvements include:
Eastside
- 75,000 hours of added bus service, an approximate 12% increase.
- 10 routes revised to maximize efficiency.
- Renovation begins at the Bellevue Transit Center.
- Improved access to downtown Bellevue.
- Streamlined service on State Route 520 and the Interstate 405 corridor.
- More direct service to the Overlake employment area.
- Reorganized Interstate 90 service.
Seattle and the City of Shoreline
- Restored weekday evening and weekend daytime service on Route 315.
- Added trips on Route 37 and Route 358.
- Additional off-peak service on the Route 53 shuttle (formerly Route 37).
- Rerouted Route 46 to provide peak coverage.
- Reinstated Route 74 extension between the University District, Seattle Center and lower Queen Anne.
- Electric trolley bus service extended to South Othello Street.
South King County
- Revised routes.
- More frequent service.
- Added rush hour trips.
- The addition of a new Renton Transit Center.
Pick Up Your New Orange Timetables
Most bus routes have some schedule or route changes, so please read this Special Rider Alert and pick up your route's new orange timetable on your bus and at Metro information racks, work sites and libraries on September 19, 2001. Watch for Rider Alert signs at your bus stop. Please help conserve paper by taking only the timetables you need or by using these other information options:

Planned Closure of SR-520
The Washington State Department of Transportation is planning to close SR-520 beginning 10:00 PM Friday, September 28 through 5:00 AM Monday, October 1. As a result, all SR-520 transit routes will be rerouted across I-90 during this time. Check Metro Online's reroutes page for specific reroutes.
New Boarding Locations on 4th Avenue in Downtown Seattle
Watch for bus stop rider alerts along 4th Avenue in downtown Seattle between Madison and Pike streets for new boarding locations fo the following routes. Bus boarding locations are changing due to construction of the new downtown Seattle Library.
Metro Transit: 17, 19, 24, 26, 28, 33, 81, 83, 84, 250, 252, 257, 260, 261, 265, 268, 280, 311.
Community Transit: 401, 402, 404, 405, 408, 410, 411, 414, 415, 417, 422, 424.
Sound Transit: 510, 511, 512, 545, 546.
