Metro Mojo ready to hit the streets

Metro special service bus waits outside SAFECO Field

Metro special service buses wait outside SAFECO Field

Look for King County Metro special service buses outside SAFECO Field after most Mariners games starting this Saturday, March 30th. Metro also offers special service for Seahawks, Sonics, and Husky football games. They'll whisk you away from the traffic to a number of regional Park-and-Ride lots. If last week's unexpected snowfall made you feel that spring would never arrive, then take heart: the Seattle Mariners and their brand of "SoDo Mojo" return to SAFECO Field this weekend with two pre-season exhibition games before Opening Day on April First. And once again King County Metro is the best way for you to slide into your seat.

Last year, Metro and the Mariners carried more than 127,000 Mariners fans to and from the games. And throughout 2001, approximately 840,000 people used Metro's special service to go to a sporting event, visit a festival, or take part in Seafair.

King County Metro Transit leads the nation in providing the most-used special service to sports events, based on surveys with other agencies. Besides Mariners games, our buses carry fans to see the Sonics, Seahawks, and Washington Huskies football.

Metro set a single weekend record in August 2000 when special shuttles carried more than 75,000 people to Seahawks football at Husky Stadium, the hydroplane races on Lake Washington, and U.S. Navy ships docked in Elliott Bay -- all despite the loss of one lane of the Evergreen Point Floating Bridge due to tugboat damage.

In addition to all the regular routes serving SAFECO Field, we're expanding our popular express shuttle service this year to serve a total of 13 park and ride lots. And, changes have been made to zip the buses through post-game traffic even more quickly. Get all the details on our Mariners Transit Service page on Metro Online, or call (206) 553-3000 (voice) or (206) 684-1739 (TTY).

Sound Transit is also bringing back its special Sounder Rail "Home Run" service for Sunday Mariners games with 1:35 p.m. start times.

Don't forget that new security measures are in place at the ballpark this year: No backpacks or large bags are allowed. The Mariners do not issue claim checks for bags. Bags left unattended will be disposed of. Diaper bags and purses are allowed, but are subject to search. No on-street parking is allowed within 100 feet of the ballpark. If you are riding Metro to the game, please plan accordingly. There are no facilities for storing restricted items. Personal belongings cannot be left on buses. Now get ready to play ball!
