Changes in bus service along the SR-522 corridor begin Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002
- New Sound Transit Route 522
- Metro Route 307 Deleted
- Metro Routes 41, 312 and 372 Revised
After substantial public outreach, the Sound Transit Board of Directors and the King County Council approved an integrated set of transit improvements for the State Route 522 corridor between Woodinville and Seattle.
New Sound Transit ST Express bus service along the SR-522 corridor is one of 19 ST Express routes included in Sound Move, the plan for regional transit approved by voters in 1996. King County Metro is changing several bus routes in the corridor between Woodinville and Seattle to reduce duplication of service and help build an integrated transit system.
These changes to bus service will provide faster service between Woodinville and downtown Seattle, will increase the frequency of service between Bothell and Lake City, and will improve service to the University of Washington main campus and the University of Washington-Bothell/ Cascadia Community College campus.

Major Changes for Bus Routes Operating Between Woodinville and Seattle
To improve bus service along the SR-522 corridor, a number of route changes between Woodinville and Seattle will be implemented.
To provide faster service between Woodinville, Lake City, and downtown Seattle, Sound Transit's new Route 522 will replace King County Metro Route 307.
Sound Transit's new ST Express Route 522 will operate all-day express service seven days a week between Woodinville, Bothell, Kenmore, Lake Forest Park, Lake City, and downtown Seattle. A trip to downtown Seattle will be faster, taking 10 to 20 minutes less than the current Route 307. Route 522 will operate every 30 minutes until about 9:30 p.m., and every 60 minutes after 9:30 p.m. See the ST 522 map.
- In downtown Seattle, Route 522 will operate westbound on Union Street, southbound on Second Avenue, northbound on Third Avenue and eastbound on Pike Street.
- Regular Sound Transit Express fares will be charged on this route ($1.25 for one zone, $2.00 for crossing the zone fare boundary at NE 145th Street). See the chart for zone and fare information.
- Metro routes 312 and 372 will also serve the stops between the University of Washington- Bothell/Cascadia Community College campus and Lake City Way NE/ NE 125th Street.
- Metro Route 306 will serve the stops between NE Bothell Way / 68th Avenue NE and Lake City Way NE / NE 125th Street. Routes 306, 312, and 372 will also stop at Bothell Way NE / NE 155th Street.
- Metro Route 41 will be expanded to operate seven days a week until 1:15 a.m., and trips will be extended to Lake City to replace Route 307. See the Lake City Route 41 map.
- Route 41 will replace Route 307 between Lake City and Northgate, operating every 15 minutes weekdays and Saturdays between Lake City, Northgate, and downtown Seattle, and every 30-60 minutes at other times. The schedules of Routes 41 and 522 will be coordinated to provide convenient transfer connections between Lake City and Northgate along Lake City Way NE at NE 125th Street and NE 130th Street.
- Metro Route 372 will operate all day Monday through Friday between Woodinville (including the North Creek Business Park) and the University District.
- Route 372 service will be expanded to operate in both directions all day Monday through Friday until about 9:30 p.m. between Woodinville and the University District, serving both the main University of Washington campus and the University of Washington- Bothell/Cascadia Community College campus. Route 372 trips will alternate with Route 522 trips between Bothell and Lake City to provide a bus about every 15 minutes on that portion of the SR-522 corridor. - Metro Route 312 trips serving Bothell will start and end at the University of Washington-Bothell/Cascadia Community College Campus instead of at the Woodinville park-and-ride. This change avoids service duplication with the new Route 522 between Bothell and Woodinville.
King County Metro Route 307 is deleted to reduce duplication with new Route 522 and to improve service on routes 41 and 372.
If you now travel on Route 307, your service alternatives will include:
- ST Route 522 for service between Woodinville, Bothell, Kenmore, Lake Forest Park, Lake City, and downtown Seattle.
- Between Lake City and Northgate, transfer to either Route 41 at Lake City Way NE and NE 130th Street or Routes 41 and 75 at Lake City Way NE and NE 125th Street.
- Route 372 for service on weekdays between Woodinville, North Creek, Bothell, Kenmore, Lake Forest Park, Lake City, and the University District.
Proposed bus stop changes along SR-522
King County Metro is proposing to have Metro routes between Bothell Way NE / SR-527 and Lake City Way NE / NE 125th Street follow a bus stop pattern similar to the list of bus stops for Sound Transit's new Route 522. Current bus stops along this section that are not listed in the Route 522 bus stop list are proposed to be closed, with the exception of the pair of stops at Bothell Way NE / NE 155th Street (a signal is planned for installation in that location in 2003).
Along a multi-lane, high traffic volume corridor like SR-522 between Bothell and Lake City, Sound Transit and King County Metro are working with local cities to support measures that increase pedestrian and traffic safety. Where possible, positioning bus stops at signalized intersections or at locations with refuge islands for pedestrians will help achieve this. Also, revised bus stop spacing and consolidation along major arterials can help provide a smoother, more efficient service. Investments are planned for improved passenger facilities such as shelters, benches, and better lighting.
