Metro Transit Special Rider Alert, June 2005
Route 7 splitting into two separate routes, Route 7 and new Route 49

Route 7 will be split into two separate routes. The southern portion between downtown Seattle and Rainier Beach will still be called Route 7. The northern portion between downtown Seattle and the University District will be called Route 49 (see the route map). The route is splitting to improve service performance, adjust service frequencies and reduce schedule variability.

Before 6:10 am on weekdays, in the evenings after 7 pm, and all day on Sunday, all Route 7 trips from Rainier Beach will continue as Route 49 trips to Capitol Hill and the University District. All Route 49 trips from the University District and Capitol Hill will continue as Route 7 trips to Rainier Beach.

On weekdays and Saturdays before 7 pm, Route 7's last northbound bus stop on 3rd Ave. will be at Pike St. For service to Capitol Hill and the University District, transfer to Route 49. Board Route 49 eastbound on Pike St. at 4th Ave.

On weekdays and Saturdays before 7 pm, Route 49's last stop in downtown Seattle will be westbound on Pine St. at 2nd Ave. For service to Rainier Beach, transfer to Route 7. Board Route 7 southbound on 3rd Ave. at Pine St.

Route 7 service between downtown Seattle and Rainier Beach will operate at similar frequencies as today. Monday through Saturday evening service between downtown Seattle and Rainier Ave. S. & S. Henderson St. will be more frequent, every 15 minutes until 9:30 pm. Service between Rainier Ave. S. & S. Henderson St. and 62nd Ave. S. & S. Prentice St. will operate every 30-40 minutes until 10 pm. Route 7 night owl trips will end at Rainier Ave. S. & S. Henderson St.

The new Route 49 will operate Monday through Saturday every 15 minutes until 9:30 pm, and on Sunday every 15 minutes until 6:30 pm. At other times, Route 49 will operate every 30 minutes.

All trips on Route 49 will operate to and from the University District. Route 49 will operate a night owl trip to the University District, leaving 3rd Ave. & Union St. at 2:15 am. In the University District, board Route 49 for travel to Broadway on Capitol Hill or downtown Seattle. Route 49 will replace Route 7 between downtown, Broadway, and the University District and will replace Route 9 service between Broadway on Capitol Hill and the University District.
