West Lake Sammamish Parkway NE, Overlake, NE 20th Street, Northup Way, 116th Avenue NE service
Map 4 shows the proposed service changes connecting Bellevue, South Kirkland Park-and-Ride, Northup Way, NE 20th Street, and West Lake Sammamish. The proposed changes affect routes 220 and 249. See the potential service changes Route frequency and span chart.
Why changes?
- Improve service connections to the Overlake Transit Center.
- Use service resources more effectively in the West Lake Sammamish area and on Northup Way.
- Improve service frequency on two-way all-day services.
Proposed changes
- Route 249 would be revised to begin and end at the Overlake Transit Center instead of the Redmond Transit Center. New east-west service would be provided along NE 40th Street.
- Route 249 would run more often during weekday peak periods. Weekday trips to Overlake during morning peak hours and trips to downtown Bellevue during afternoon peak hours would be operated via the South Kirkland Park-and-Ride to provide connections to and from routes 230, 540, and 255.
- Route 220 would be discontinued.
Advantages
- Most West Lake Sammamish riders would have better access to Overlake Transit Center services and to Overlake employment sites.
- Service resources now used on Route 220 and the Redmond-Lake Sammamish Parkway portion of Routes 249 could be reallocated to other Eastside service changes with higher ridership potential.
- Route 249 would run more often in the weekday peak periods.
Disadvantages
- West Lake Sammamish riders to and from downtown Redmond would have to transfer at Overlake Transit Center during off-peak hours.
- A few West Lake Sammamish riders between Leary Way NE and NE Bel-Red Road would have service only during weekday peak hours.
- Between downtown Bellevue and NE 20th Street, Route 249 would take about eight minutes longer eastbound in the morning and westbound in the afternoon due to serving South Kirkland Park-and-Ride.
