Proposed bus service changes

  • Create new Route 157 (Lake Meridian Park-and-Ride/Glencarin/East Hill/Downtown Seattle) with routing via SE 223rd Street and 124th Avenue SE in the Glencarin neighborhood. Route 157 would operate on weekdays with three morning trips to downtown Seattle and three afternoon trips to Kent East Hill.
  • Revise Route 161 (Lake Meridian Park-and-Ride/East Hill/Tukwila Park-and-Ride/Downtown Seattle) to serve Lake Meridian Park-and-Ride via Kent Kangley Road, 124th Avenue SE, SE 256th Street, 116th Avenue SE, and SE 240th Street. Route 161 would no longer serve the Glencarin neighborhood, which would instead be served by new Route 157 (see above). Route 161 would continue operating on weekdays with five trips in the morning and five in the afternoon.

Metro would pay for the proposed new service with funds generated by Transit Now, an initiative approved by voters in November 2006.

The Transit Now ballot measure increased the sales tax by one-tenth of one percent to pay for a 15-20 percent expansion of Metro Transit service over 10 years.
